Picks for Wednesday

This is a blog I've started for myself as a journal of sorts. I'll post my thoughts on NHL news as well as my picks for the games each night. You're more than welcome to chime in if you'd like. I'm a huge Flyers fan so most of my knowledge and thoughts will primary come from the Atlantic side of things. That said, I try to keep an eye on the NHL in it's entirety. Anyway, here we go...

You almost wonder if the Pittsburgh Penguins are reaping bad karma points at this point. Crosby is out indefinitely and Malkin is probably out for the year. Where I get the bad karma idea is from guys like Matt Cooke on their team skating without a care for anyone else on the ice. The crap he pulls would never have been tolerated years ago. It's only a matter of time before someone catches him facing the boards in an enticing position. Looking at some of the damage he's done historically, I'm actually surprised the NHL hasn't given him a huge suspension. The Savard hit alone was a joke. I can respect a pest, but this guy is beyond that.

On a different note, I've started making picks on the NHL games for the night. I purchased the NHL Center Ice package at the beginning of the season (primarily for the Flyers) and wanted something to make the games more interesting. Picking winners made cruising through the games a little more fun. I've started this blog after I've picked games, so I'll recap my record to date.

Tuesday - 2/8/2011
Hurricanes over the Devils : Wrong : OT/L : 5-2
Maple Leafs over the Islanders : Right : 6-2
Penguins over the Blue Jackets : Wrong : 6-3
Capitals over the Sharks : Wrong : 6-4
Blues over the Panthers : Right : 7-4

Wednesday - 2/9/2011
Bruins over the Canadiens : Right : 8-4
Sharks over the Blue Jackets : Right : 9-4
Red Wings over the Predators : Wrong : 9-5
Avalanche over the Wild : Wrong : 9-6
Stars over the Coyotes : Wrong : OT/L : 9-7
Flames over the Senators : Right : 10-7
Blackhawks over the Oilers : Right : 11-7
Canucks over the Ducks : Wrong : 11-8

I was hoping to have a better record than 11-8, but a lot of my losses seem to be preferring the team with the better record. Hard to account for those games. I do make sure to denote the overtime losses just to show that I was at least close. Again, these are just for fun and I wouldn't bet on my picks.
